[January 11th - 12th, Year 6, Summer]  When the skies fill with clouds, everyone hopes that the drought is over. But there is no rain, and worse, this storm brings a new threat. A single flash, and everyone's relief is quickly turned to terror. The Kalahari is ablaze, and no force on earth will stop its rampage. Meerkats, of course, have their burrows and boltholes, but many other animals aren't so lucky. You watch in horror as some of your mobmates can't escape in time and are swallowed in the flames. Burnt alive, the fire has sealed their fate. Others are separated, and never seen again. There's little any of the mobs can do as the wildfire destroys anything and anyone unfortunate enough to cross its path.

When the fire finally subsides the next morning, you and your family awaken to discover that your home is hardly recognizable. You've survived, but the desert is damaged; you can't live here anymore, at least not for quite some time. Having no other option, the Linklus, Lavas, and Villains decide to abandon their home. Many of them have lived here their whole lives. It's dangerous moving long distances, and having also been weakened by the drought, it will not be an easy journey. The fate of the Anklebiters, Unspeakables, ClawShades, and Vermillions is unknown. Perhaps they perished, or maybe parts of their territory were unscathed.

You take one last pained glance at the charred landscape behind you, before forcing yourself to move on. The path ahead remains uncertain, but it's the only way now...

[January 15th, Year 6, Summer]  Three days later, and the Linklus finally arrive at a new reserve. The drought continues to affect the area, though it's untouched by the fire. But this fresh start is a cold comfort for some. It appears that yet more of their numbers have diminished during the journey, as they appear to be even smaller than they were after the fire. The Linklus haven't been this small for many years, and survival will be difficult going forward, but they're still here, at least. And they're not the only ones; it seems almost fateful that their rivals have found this place, too.

For the inexperienced leader, Mzuri, this will be a test of leadership and character. At the very least, the Villains are the only mob with very young pups, giving them a head start in growing their numbers. These pups are also the reason the Villains were the last to arrive.

Life has been hard on the Lavas, but Poison's not about to let that slow her down. It only gives her an excuse to strike stronger and harder. Still, her mood is understandably sour, and it would be wise not to piss her off. She's planning to look for a new burrow, after it was discovered overnight that parts of this one are actually collapsed...
