January 6, Year 6 - Linklu Empty Re: January 6, Year 6 - Linklu

October 29th 2017, 11:38 pm
As usual, Temp is one of the first Linklus awake and out of the burrow this morning. He takes his duty as protector very seriously. He knows with the ongoing drought, Lilifey is more stressed out than ever and anything he can do to help his mother out and alleviate some of the stress, he will do. The Linklu themselves have been going through a rough time. Once enormous, the mob's numbers have dwindled tremendously. Temp is no stranger to hardships or small mobs - in fact, the mob was very small while he was growing up - but this is something different. So many members have left, disappeared, or even worse. Those that are still here are having trouble finding enough food. Still, Temp trusts Lilifey. He knows that she will make the right decisions to keep the Linklu going forward. There's also another big change that has happened recently. The Linklu are currently without a dominant male... Lilifey's right hand mate Thunder has disappeared, leaving a huge hole in the group. Thunder wasn't just the dominant male, he was a loving mate to Lilifey, a caring father, and used his huge size to be a fierce protector of the group. In previous times when the group has been left without a dominant male, Temp was too shy, too fragile to step up and a be a leader. But he's grown tremendously in confidence and in determination since then. So lately, in the absence of a dominant male, Temp was been helping to take on that role. Not completely - he still refuses to scent mark or assert his dominance over other group members... but as one of the oldest males in the group, he helps with the scent marking, the sentry duty (as per usual), keeping track of everyone, especially the pups. It's the least he can do to help Lilifey out until if and when the Linklu get a new dominant male.

Jazmine is awake but remains below ground with Bandit. Things haven't changed that much for her lately, except perhaps that her feelings for him only continue to grow stronger and stronger. Secretly, she's even thought about having pups with him even though it could make Lilifey mad, but now is not the time because of the drought and she knows. So Jazmine settles for the little displays of affection instead. Nuzzling, cuddling, sharing food, grooming... she can't get enough of Bandit. She even has shirked on some of her duties such as babysitting and feeding pups in order to spend time with Bandit. Hopefully no one has noticed, but if so, no one has mentioned anything... yet. For now, Jazmine waits until he wakes up to emerge.

Cassidee is awake and soon emerges. For her, the drought has also brought tragedy, the loss of her adopted daughter Viridian. It crushed her and she very well could have remained that way, but she pulled herself together quickly in order to focus on caring for Saja. At six months old, Cassidee feels that Saja is old enough to pretty much take care of herself at this point which is a huge milestone. Though that fact is relieving, Cassidee still cares for Saja a lot. Taking Saja under her wing has given her a new sense of purpose in life and helped her feel at home in the Linklu. With Saja growing up so fast, Cassidee has been helping a lot with the care of Lilifey's and, yes, even Sophie's litters as well. Caring for the next generation of meerkats just seems to be her calling and what makes her truly happy. She greets Temp with a chirp and then begins to sunbathe.

Faafe has been up to her bizarre antics, as usual. And, as usual, she hasn't cared one bit that everyone thinks she's weird. She's actually remained remarkably unchanged since the drought. Her body still retains its plump form, even though she has definitely been eating less like everyone else. She is currently still asleep.

Life has definitely been tough on little Luisa. She's the daughter of the dominant female and she should be getting pampered with the best care available, but of course the drought has taken that away from her. Everyone has been struggling and it's forced her to grow up a little bit. Even though she's just three months old, she has grown to be quite mature for her age. She has a passion for learning as much as she can - about other meerkats and mobs, about the environment around her, about the way things work. She's naturally curious about it all. However, on top of all that, she is quite introverted. She isn't necessarily shy - she'll make friends with anyone who approaches her - but she finds it hard to put herself out there and be friends with the rest of the mob. Sometimes it feels lonely, but she knows she has a couple meerkats she can totally rely on, her mother Lilifey first and foremost. One meerkat who she doesn't have however is her brother, Liulfr. They have formed something of a sibling rivalry. They just simply don't get along and are always competitive with each other. Luisa doesn't mind it necessarily... She has August and Harvey to play with as well, but it would be nice if she had another actual sibling she could bond with. Luisa has also struggled with growing up in the drought due to the fact that she has grown picky eating tendencies. From her first foraging trips, she only liked things with a crunchy texture. Worms, grubs, anything of that nature - just absolutely yuck. She's decidedly skinnier than the other juveniles as a result. Although she knows inside that it's not healthy for her to be this way, she can't help it, and just hopes that it doesn't get worse in the future. Currently she is still asleep below ground.

Harvey is a chill 'kat. Something he most certainly did not get from his mom, Sophie. He's heard stories of Sophie but doesn't really have a good memory of her before she dispersed from the group. And as for his dad Victor, well, Harvey doesn't hate him at all but their relationship tends to be more awkward than anything. But even with a less-than-ideal birth position in the group and start in life (being born in a drought is a bit of a downer), Harvey lets it all roll off his back. He just gets up, forages, does his meerkat thing, and takes it one day at a time. Right now he is asleep with his brother August.

January 6, Year 6 - Linklu Empty Re: January 6, Year 6 - Linklu

October 30th 2017, 2:47 pm
Colossus stays near his mother protectively. The loss of his father has induced a growing panic that he didn't know how to put out. Thunder has always been the great dominant male of the Linklus for years and has created almost a legend at the side of Lilifey. Now so many things were lost. Colossus matched his father's size, but he did not match his courage and experience. Because of this, Colossus felt like a giant coward. He nearly created a small bald patch on his chest by constantly pulling out his own fur from stress.

January 6, Year 6 - Linklu Empty Re: January 6, Year 6 - Linklu

October 30th 2017, 7:29 pm
As Shooting Star's eyelids part, a sense of anxiety flows from her stomach to her chest, not looking forward to spending another day excavating several inches into the ground to find absolutely nothing. Turning her head to view her protruding hip bones, she exhales a depressed sigh, not only because the severe drought has caused her to become emaciated, but Lil Trooper is no longer there snuggling up against her as well. His wing had fully healed and a couple weeks ago he made his departure from the Linklu, just as the drought was entering the catastrophic level. Shooting Star sighs as her one hazel eye and one blue eye drift to the entrance of her chamber. She hopes Lil Trooper is okay. Maybe he found himself a girlfriend and is cuddled up with her in a warm nest right now. Shooting Star can only pray that's the circumstance as currently it's becoming increasingly difficult for even the Kalahari's most fierce animals to survive. As a matter of fact a few days ago while foraging she saw a deceased lion that appeared to be terribly emaciated. The poor thing probably hadn't eaten anything decent for days. What if that's Lil Trooper right now out there somewhere? Shooting Star shakes her head, pushing the disturbing thought out of her mind. No, she's sure he's fine. He possesses a strong spirit. If it got him through a potentially fatal injury, it's certain to pull him through this too! Nodding with confidence, Shooting Star pushes herself up onto all fours, swaying a little as a wave of dizziness came over her. It's been days since she's consumed anything decent and the lack of nutrients has her feeling weak, but Lil Trooper's tenacity has inspired her to restore her health and add this drought experience to her book of misfortunes she has survived. She intends to grow old and tell her future children, grandchildren, and maybe even great grandchildren about her life saga.

January 6, Year 6 - Linklu Empty Re: January 6, Year 6 - Linklu

November 5th 2017, 1:55 am
To say that the drought had been unkind to the Linklus would be a vast understatement. Their once formidable numbers had been dashed in a startlingly small amount of time as the harsh Kalahari played the role of executioner and thinned the mob that had grown perhaps too large for it's own good. The Linklu matriarch was still among the survivors. Having already experienced so much hardship and loss within her ever lengthening lifetime, this new and devastating trial that faced her family continued to land it's blows, but none had yet shaken her beyond the point of repair. Thunder's disappearance had been the closest she had come to breaking, but even the loss of her beloved mate did not shatter Lilifey's hardened drive to see the Linklus through this mess. She had firmly placed aside her own grief for the time being, knowing that those who were left standing within the mob did not need to lose both of their leaders in one fell swoop. Still, she greatly appreciated Temp stepping up to take on some of the roles that Thunder had previously filled, and was grateful to Cassidee for her help in caring for the younger members in the group. Already above ground, Lilifey was situated near Colossus, which was becoming a bit of a trend. Her son had grown to be understandable protective of her, though his anxiety was beginning to worry the matriarch. When she noticed him once again pulling at the fur of his own chest, she leaned over to gently stop him, nudging him and chrring softly.

Of all of the Linklu members to have perished or disappeared in recent times, including strong and loyal individuals who had been invaluable to the mob’s stability, it was almost a joke that traitorous Victor still remained. Slinking out of the burrow with a yawn, he paid little mind to anyone else and plopped down rather unceremoniously near the burrow’s entrance to continue resting for a bit. He was really in no rush to do any chores or socialize. Until his mate made her appearance above ground, Victor prefered to spend his mornings being as lazy as possible. To be fair, he looked pretty damn terrible. His fur was in decent shape due to Sevuela’s attentive care, but that was about it. He was skinnier than usual, always appeared to be tired, and was sporting a healing bite wound on his tail from when he had tried to “flirt” with Lilifey on the very day that Thunder had gone missing. Needless to say, the dominant female had been less than pleased and trying to explain himself to poor Sevuela in the aftermath was really not one of his proudest moments. He’d been showering Sev with nearly endless amounts of attention in the days since to try and make it up to her.

January 6, Year 6 - Linklu Empty Re: January 6, Year 6 - Linklu

November 5th 2017, 7:22 am
Harvey has woken up and emerges behind Victor, although he doesn't acknowledge his father. He takes a spot near Cassidee and warms up in the pleasant morning sun.

Luisa finally wakes up with a yawn and a big stretch. Shooting a quick glance at Liulfr, she trots above ground and goes over by Lilifey and Colossus. She peeps to them happily, not noticing Lilifey encouraging Colossus to stop self-grooming.

Temp nods at Lilifey when she emerges, but doesn't go over to her just yet. He doesn't want to crowd her and make her feel too overwhelmed. Instead, he decides to start working on the burrow entrance and begins digging out the old, loose sand. The sooner the morning chores are done, the sooner the mob can get to the important business of foraging.

Faafe soon wakes up and begins to emerge. She runs into Temp clearing out the burrow entrance. He pauses to let her through, but she just stares and him with wide eyes, blinking occasionally. Temp tilts his head curiously. He's grown used to Faafe exhibiting strange behavior, but he normally just keeps his distance from her. Suddenly, Faafe shrieks wildly, startling Temp and causing him to jump about a foot in the air. Faafe then strolls past him, seemingly unbothered. Temp just stares at her as she begins to sunbathe, confused...

January 6, Year 6 - Linklu Empty Re: January 6, Year 6 - Linklu

November 5th 2017, 12:53 pm
The next Linklu to appear at the burrow mouth is a familiar figure... even though long-time member Amira had gone missing, it was although she were still there... Her daughter, Violet, was her mirror image, right down to her inspired expression.  Violet's been through a lot throughout her short lifetime, more than many of the Linklus had ever experienced.  She had been born in a rival mob, separated from her mother by force out of greed, rescued by the Linklus, separated again and adopted by the Lavas, where she was bullied and manipulated.  She almost lost her pups and her life in the same day when a bitter reunion almost spelled disaster for her, and her mother.  Violet had been broken, and broken again, but she hadn't grown up in the Lavas a weak meerkat.  She was a survivor, and she was tougher than she looked.  But once again, her spirit had been cracked.  Draco had been her saving grace through all those months of torment... he was her mate, and their bond was a symbol of the union of two enemies.  Their parents had hated each other, but they had been deep in love before they could really understand that.  But now she had lost him, only yesterday in scuffle with a rival mob.  Her beloved babysitter, Laura, was gone too.  As if that weren't enough, every single one of her babies were gone, too.  She had mated with Draco shortly before his disappearance, but it was too early to tell if she was pregnant or not.  In the drought, there was every chance that it would fail.  Life was very lonely for Violet now.  Even her twin sister, Rembla, wasn't at her side.  All she had left was Jazmine, her only family left in the Kalahari.  She had spent her childhood in the Linklus, but that had been so long ago, and her time in the Lavas had transformed her.  She wasn't sure what she called home anymore... but this was the closest she had ever gotten, and it was as good a home as any.  It was important to remember that Violet's heart was wounded, but wounds could heal.  Her mother was a survivor... she had managed to live on after both she and her adopted brother Tuhi had been taken from her, and Violet could survive, too.  But there was a spark growing in her heart... Draco himself had become increasingly distant and bitter towards Voldemort.  She couldn't blame him, but for a long time, Violet had found his thirst for revenge to be rather degrading... recently, however, she had come to share his pain.  She had grown up with the violent male, after all, and knew that he would stop at nothing to get what he wanted.  She wanted to stop him from causing more pain.  But Violet had come to love the Linklus too, and was determined to become dedicated to the mob that Amira had adored so much.

One perhaps... unexpected presence in the Linklus is Sophie's daughter, Hortense.  She doesn't have the best track record, but she's been keeping her act clean since the disappearance of Sophie many months ago.  Sophie was one of the first to disappear... Even Hortense didn't really know where her mother went... but she's taken to watching carefully over her little siblings, August, Harvey, and Temptation.  She let the group try to 'educate' them on their mom for now, and kept proving herself as a supposedly loyal and dedicated member of the group, but she had a hidden agenda, and had plans for the pups in the future... Energetic little Temptation was none the wiser, and kept sleeping peacefully as Hortense watched over her.

Bandit was awake, with his darling Jazmine.  Unfortunately, he found himself in a bit of a predicament.  Last time he had left to check on his father two months, he had been unable to locate the Shadow Deaths, and feared that the formidable mob had also suffered at the hands of the drought.  He wasn't sure why he cared.  His family had taught him how to fight, and a bunch of values he didn't really put stock into.  But it meant he wouldn't be able to carry out his mission.  Besides, the male had made a lot of changes since then.  He had finally gotten innocent little Jazmine to fall for him.  She was like clay in his hands, ready to be molded as he saw fit.  He couldn't remember the last time he had been successful so quickly... probably because Bandit had tricked himself, too.  Yes, the heartless casanova had finally fallen victim to his own prey.  He was selfish, cruel, and yet there was definitely something different about him.  His affections had grown more passionate, more sincere, and it seems to have changed him on an emotional level, too.  Before he knew what was happening, Bandit was mad in love, and it seemed he had finally given in to his own feelings.  He wasn't pretending anymore, and he would kill to make sure Jazmine never found out the truth about him...

It may not have been the first time Sevuela's faced starvation, but that didn't make it any easier.  When she and Pancake were evicted from the IceFangs years ago, the two had faced inevitable hunger before being separated.  Still, it gave her the edge, because she'd been in this type of situation before.  That didn't make things any easier, however... none of Sevuela's pups survived the recent drought, and all of her previous litters were long gone... the loss of her children had hit her hard, and it wasn't a fact that she hid very well.  Perhaps for this reason, she had been affected more severely by Victor's advances than usual.  Reigning alongside Sophie, then trying to woo Lilifey... it was a shock that she hadn't left him yet.  Sevuela simply loved him too much, and was willing to look past his flaws for the sake of his good qualities... they loved each other, despite everything.  If anything, she blamed herself.  She was just a nervous subordinate female, after all.  It was understandable that Victor would find Lilifey and Sophie more desirable than her.  She was even more emotional than usual, however, and actually asked him if she wasn't good enough... not in a spiteful way.  She legitimately wanted to know how she could be better.  How she could be the mate he wanted and deserved? She couldn't give him power, but surely there was something.  She felt bad for asking almost immediately though, and is still feeling rather embarrassed about it.  But she doesn't want to lose him, so rather than shying away, Sevuela has been paying more attention to him than usual.  She wants to be good enough... maybe if she raised a litter successfully? What would it take? These were trivial things to worry about in such desperate times, but she couldn't help it.  As dire as things were, Sev couldn't afford to lose Victor.

He's only a few months old, but poor Liulfr has had a tough life already.  From the minute he could walk, it became evident that the little pup was going to be a pawful.  He had several close calls with predators and getting lost from the minute he was allowed outside until the end of his first week foraging.  The drought had only been a whisper then, and the little boy had been lucky to see Linklu in its prime.  That was before the mob began dropping like flies, shattering Liulfr's delicate world.  You wouldn't think that a pup could be feisty and timid at the same time, but that's exactly what Liulfr was.  He knew that the family was in trouble, and wanted to help, but losing so many of them had been shocking and he looked upon each day with fear.  Who would be next? Ever now and then his courage made a comeback, but most of his time was spent cowering around mom.  As a juvenile, however, there may be hope for him yet.  And he certainly wasn't timid when it came to messing around with his sister, Luisa...

January 6, Year 6 - Linklu Empty Re: January 6, Year 6 - Linklu

November 5th 2017, 9:23 pm
Upon rounding a corner into the tunnel that leads to the burrow entrance, Shooting Star is overcome with another wave of dizziness, causing her to place her left shoulder against the wall to prevent herself from collapsing as this spell is accompanied with spots obscuring her vision. A frustrated groan emits from her mouth. She hopes this won't be an intermittent occurrence throughout the day. It's sure to hinder her ability to forage and she's not in the mood to have to pause in between digging every five minutes to recuperate. She. Needs. Food! Once the dizziness fades, Shooting Star makes her ascent up the slope of the burrow, chirping a greeting to Temp as she passed him, not even acknowledging Faafe's bizarre behavior. Faafe is Faafe, and Shooting Star has learned to just ignore her when she's having one of her moments. Once she crests the slope of the burrow the first individual that enters Shooting Star's line of vision is Lilifey. She frowns sorrowfuly. Usually Thunder would be by her side at this hour, affectionately grooming her and enjoying the view of the landscape, but that touching scene shall no longer greet the Linklu members' eyes. It breaks Shooting Star's heart to know that Thunder is gone. He was such an amazing patriarch, always looking out for the safety of the mob and offering to help those in need in any way he can. She prays wherever he is his wellbeing is intact and he returns to the mob safely. Shooting Star sits next to Lilifey, placing her right paw on the mourning matriarch's left shoulder as a way of comforting her.

January 6, Year 6 - Linklu Empty Re: January 6, Year 6 - Linklu

November 21st 2017, 5:20 pm
Temp chirps a greeting back at Shooting Star, and follows her lead in ignoring Faafe. He is still thrown off by her unusual behavior, but she's been with the Linklu for several months and appears harmless. He goes back to diligently cleaning the burrow entrance.

Jazmine nuzzles Bandit and then emerges. They're a little late, but the group doesn't seem to be in any hurry this morning so she hopes Lilifey doesn't mind. She takes a look around and then goes to sit by Violet. Losing their mother Amira was hard on the group, but especially hard on the two sisters because they were both close to her. Gone, too, were Violet's children and their sister Rembla. With the dwindling of their family, Jazmine has made every attempt to spend as much time with Violet as she can. She doesn't want to lose her last remaining sister, too.

Cassidee grooms herself for a little bit, and then begins to groom Harvey as she waits for the rest of the group to emerge. He chirrs in contentment.

Luisa begins batting at a small pebble near the burrow entrance. It's light enough that it moves around when she hits it. She starts running around, hitting the pebble, but making sure not to run into any of the adults. Who needs other pups, she can have fun all on her own!

Faafe yawns loudly, then scratches her ear, blinking a couple times.

January 6, Year 6 - Linklu Empty Re: January 6, Year 6 - Linklu

November 22nd 2017, 12:29 pm
(( Oh, what the heck, I'll keep Millie.  OTL ))

Violet gazed softly at Jazmine as her sister took a spot beside her.  The two of them had never been very close - not that they disliked each other or anything, but being part of such a large litter, it wasn't surprising.  Besides, Violet was very young when she had been separated from the Linklus, which of course had put a considerable gap between them.  She had been closest to her sister Rembla, but with her and the others now gone, it hadn't taken long for her to gravitate towards Jazmine, and the two had already managed to improve their relationship a little.  With a gentle chrr, Violet reached over to nuzzle Jazmine.  Even if Laura, Draco, Amira, Rembla, and all the rest were gone, it was heartwarming to know that she still had family at her side.

Bandit followed Jazmine over to Violet, and gave her a friendly nod.  He wasn't aware of his mate's history, but as her sister, he had come to care about Violet, too.  He's changed a lot recently.

Liulfr has taken his usual spot this morning hiding in mom's fur.  He squeezed his head under her arm and peered cautiously at the world around him.  Sometimes his old personality showed, but right now, the shivering little male is content to stay where it's safe.  That is, until he sees what his sister Luisa is doing.  Like a bullet, Liulfr shot over to his sister at the burrow entrance and chirped, wanting to know what she's up to.  Can he play too?!

Sevuela gazed around, looking for Victor.  For a moment, she's relieved when she doesn't see him by Lilifey, but after a moment she shook her head.  No, she couldn't afford to doubt him like that.  It was completely understandable if Victor was attracted to females in power; she was just a lowly subordinate, after all.  A weak, pitiful subordinate without the guts to offer him anything better than someone to keep him warm at night.  A thought suddenly came to her... she had never tried to actually take dominance for herself, had she? Sevuela quickly shook her head again.  No, she couldn't do that... Lilifey was so nice... the thought was so unlike her, but her love for Victor was making her frantic, and even as she continued her search the thought still lingered in the darkest reaches of her mind.  At least it was hidden away from her sights for now, as the spotted female returned below ground to look for Victor.

Temptation chrred softly in her sleep as she curled up closer to her brother, Harvey.  She may be the only girl in Sophie's litter, but she has a lot of potential.  Hortense watched her closely... Sophie actually only disappeared about a month and a half ago, so the pups had plenty of time to know who their mom really was, but she had taken an active position in caring for them.  No doubt the other Linklus have tried to tell them that their mother had been a bad meerkat, and Hortense was staying quiet and allowing it for now, but Sophie had trained her and she was determined to pass on the tradition to her little siblings, as well.

One ragged figure to emerge next is Millie.  Unfortunately, she's probably one of the Linklus in the worst shape.  She was much more selfish in her youth, but these days, she often put herself before others.  As her mother grew older and had more close calls, her fear of losing Lilifey made her a more giving individual.  When she adopted Liza and became a mother herself, she became even more selfless and has been giving most of her food to her daughter, and to Lilifey and Temp when they'd accept it.  It was a nice thought, but in the middle of a drought, this behavior was potentially dangerous.  She wasn't concerned at the moment, however, and took her place as usual besides her brother, Temp.  Millie groomed her littermate gently, hoping to make the most of the morning before the heat took away the moment.

January 6, Year 6 - Linklu Empty Re: January 6, Year 6 - Linklu

November 25th 2017, 3:47 pm
Luisa looks up at Liulfr when he runs over, a little taken aback. She pauses for a second, remembering the fights they've had in the past and wondering if it's a trick. But, what the heck, they're still siblings and can still have fun together if they don't start arguing. She nods enthusiastically and bats the pebble over to him.

Temp smiles at Millie. The two littermates have been close for some time, so Temp can't help but worry about Millie. She seems to be looking thinner and more ragged every day. He usually shrugs off her attempts at offering him food, insisting that she needs it more than him, but he makes a mental note that he may actually want to start sharing his food with her. He grooms her tenderly; at least he can make sure that her fur is neat and parasite-free.

January 6, Year 6 - Linklu Empty Re: January 6, Year 6 - Linklu

Shooting Star watches Luisa and Liulfr vibrantly bat the pebble around with a look of delight formed on her face. Her short time with the young goshawk, Lil Trooper, has her aspiring to become a passionate mother of her own pups someday. Along with getting another chance at steering the next generation in the direction of a prosperous future, Shooting Star would be giving her birth mob a legacy. Shortly before she got separated during a deadly encounter with another mob, her birth mob was already struggling with disease and ill fated pregnancies. She imagines by now she must be the only one left...Shooting Star lowers her head in gloom. There's no way any of her relatives are alive now. Shooting Star wishes she could produce a litter now, but it wouldn't be appropriate at a time like this, not when the Kalahari is only offering dry wind driven stinging sand and empty pantries. She'll have to wait until weather conditions start to improve, which doesn't look to be any time soon...

Liufr sniffed the pebble, and nudged it with his nose.  As dark as time have been for the Linklu, it was refreshing to know that pups could still be pups... sometimes.  Liulfr spent most of his time now hiding behind his mother, which was a stark contrast to how he used to behave, but there were still plenty of times where that wasn't the case.  Even if the two of them had a rivalry of sorts, Luisa was still his sister, and he loved her.  Giggling puppishly, he batted the pebble back, excited by their game.

Millie had always been very careful about who she opened up to.  Liza, honestly, was the first outsider she had really grown close to.  Now her daughter was older, and she couldn't be prouder.  Before that, however, her affections were limited to her mother and littermates, and to her babysitting sister Sicily, who took care of them before she even turned a year old.  She had always been especially close to Cassie, but once the desert had claimed her life, Temp had really been the one to fill that void, and she wouldn't know what to do without him.  Her affections, however, is what has put her life in jeopardy.  Not that she cared, anyway.  She knew her brother was worried about her, but she knew Lilifey would have done the same for them.  Millie groomed her brother back tenderly, returning the kind gesture by removing a desperate tick lodged behind his ear.

January 6, Year 6 - Linklu Empty Re: January 6, Year 6 - Linklu

Approaching a territory that once flourished with life, Voldemort glowers at the old scent that filled him with a dark nostalgia. He never feared the Linklu, but he knew well not to pick fights he couldn't win. The group was full of strong members not to mention a burly dominant male that outweighed Voldemort himself. But this was when there was still good times. Those days, like with everyone else, were over. With most of the biggest and challenging members gone, Voldemort could practically walk up to their doorstep without paranoia of getting chased off by a formidable male. He snickered even. With Lilifey exposed, he had numerous fantasies of invading the group and tearing her to shreds; something his mother could never accomplish—She had been ousted and beaten by a crippled, deformed female of all things! But all that was behind him. Greeting Linklu territory was like greeting an old friend.

He had no plans to be spotted, at least not by the group. There was one member he wished to see, one 'kat that could help him partake in a revenge that was so profound, time wouldn't stand a chance in erasing it. But he had to tread extremely lightly. This member wasn't foolish, especially since they had suffered under his terror during puphood.

He came armed, however. Armed with his unparalleled abilities in masking the core of his true self. He was a master in manipulation; he had practically brainwashed Luchina after all, a female that was convinced he had legitimate feelings and affection for.

So how hard would this challenge be?

Before trespassing through the heart of the Linklus, Voldemort finds a starving, wandering mouse. He immediately pounces and chews it to shreds, making sure to spill all of its blood. He needed it. When the rodent moved no more, Voldemort dragged it across the sand, streaking a small section gore to where it looked like something had been slaughtered. He devoured the mouse's remains and cleaned the blood off his fur. Then he continued on with his short journey.

The Linklu territory bearing more shrubs and bushes was more than an extra help to him. He hid well, spying on each member until his eyes fell on his target. Violet was most definitely lonely, whether she was surrounded by family or not. She may be healing, but he could scope out that fragment within her that was insecure and unguarded. He had an act for this, too. She missed Draco. And why shouldn't she? After all, he was the first one to stand up for her back at the Lavas ages ago. He was able to involuntarily enchant her with the proof that even imps could pull a 180, if they found that precious special person.

Love. The word almost made Voldemort gag on the spot. But it was an astute asset that could just be the key in pulling this scheme off. If one was easily influenced by feelings and emotions, especially love, then they were puppets for the taking—playing. Someone just needed to find their strings.

Now he only needed her attention without drawing any of the other's. But he had a plan for this, too. With his talents in mimicking emotion, he was able to mimic his brother quite well. When coming close to Violet's spot, he began to make low, soft whimpering sounds, matching Draco's pitch.

January 6, Year 6 - Linklu Empty Re: January 6, Year 6 - Linklu

Months flew by fast... Topaz was hardly a pup anymore. She was growing fast. Already, she was a young teenager. She had felt the changes in herself. She was bigger, and practically towered over the other pups in the mob. It made her feel a bit lonely... There weren't any others around her age. She was the oldest "pup" in the mob. She emerged regardless and looked around. The others had emerged already. She stretched herself a bit and went to sun herself before they would go to forge. She was able to forge fine and able to keep herself fed. It wouldn't be long before she would be considered a grown up. And would start to help the rest of the adults. She let herself dream... Thinking of Jet and Sanders... Were they doing well? Had they matured...? ...Were they even... still..? She shook her head. No! They had to be okay... Right?

Meanwhile, Saja emerged next, with Emerald following close behind. Despite their little age difference, they were still as close as ever. Saja was growing, too. Not just in body, but also in mind. Sure, she was 6 months, but she was definitely acting more mature than most. She noticed Cassidee, she and Emerald's adoptive mother. She had been grateful for the older female taking them in... Emerald definitely needed the emotional support. Unlike Saja, Emerald was more skittish. And still required an adult's support. One thing both pups shared was they both had a lot of loss. Both lost their mobs... But Emerald lost TWO. Emerald had lost her mother, never met her father... She only had her aunt Morning Glory, but now... Wasn't even sure if her auntie lived... Saja barely remembered her mother... She did recall her father Tank, uncle Lancaster... And her now deceased siblings. She had lost each of them... Two to that horrid rover named Ghost... And the others in different ways. Both approached their adoptive mother, while Emerald gave a small greeting, while Saja simply nodded. While again, she was more than capable of taking care of herself... She never had a legit mother in her life. So... Looking at Cassidee as a mother was new to Saja. But... She wanted to at least have that moment... To have someone she could call "mom". And so far... Cassidee had been more of a mother to her than her own biological mother, whom she never even met... Her father and uncle had been the ones who were in her life. Never anyone she could closely relate to as a mom. But so far... Cassidee had been filling that role quite nicely... Especially for the more sensitive Emerald.

January 6, Year 6 - Linklu Empty Re: January 6, Year 6 - Linklu

Temp looks around for Lilifey. He figures they should be heading out soon, but he trusts Lilifey's judgment. Truth be told, he hasn't experienced life in a group this small for quite a long time and he's not sure how that affects things. It could make it easier with fewer mouths to feed, or make things harder with being more difficult to defend their territory. So he's been extremely wary of any suspicious activity on Linklu land lately.

Luisa pounces on Liulfr, but she tries to keep it gentle, a contrast from their usual rough skirmishes. Despite being decidedly skinny, she is still a spry juvenile and can give playfighting a good shot.

Seeing Saja and Emerald emerge, Cassidee feels a surge of warmness in her heart. Although they are not her biological children, she has stepped up to fulfill the role of their mother and is fully committed. She cares for them just as if they were her biological children. She leans over and nuzzles both of them.

Faafe screams randomly, then goes silent. Harvey glares at her, startled at the sudden noise.

Sitting next to Violet, Jazmine's ears pick up on something. It sounds like someone whimpering, and sounds quite familiar too, although she can't fully place the voice. She looks around at the group, but doesn't see anyone whining. Her ears twitch, trying to locate the source of the sound, but she's never been that good at that kind of thing...

Shooting Star was experiencing another dizzy spell when Faafe's bizarre vocalization enters her ear canals. She squeaks in alarm, thinking a predator has been detected in the vicinity and slips when she tries to sprint for the burrow tunnel. Once her distorted vision clears, Shooting Star notices some of the Linklu individuals glaring at Faafe again. Shooting Star rolls her eyes, irritated with everything at the moment. Stupid dizzy spells, stupid Faafe, stupid drought!

Topaz's daydream was suddenly torn away as Faafe's scream pierced her ears. She opened her sapphire eyes and looked around, startled. What was going on?!

Emerald is more than happy to nuzzle her adoption mom back. Her confidence was slowly becoming better but she was still a bit skittish. Like when Faafe randomly screamed, Emerald cried out and hid under Cassidee while trembling like a leaf in the wind. What was going on?! Had a predator been detected?! Was another mob invading?! What, what, what?!

Saja closed her eyes at the nuzzle Cassidee gave, since she was more reserved. Yet she showed no signs of resistance or being uncomfortable. It was still a big adjustment for her, since she spent her entire 6 month existence without a mother figure. But she was enjoying the nuzzling, in her own way. When Faafe had her random scream, Saja tensed slightly and like Harvey, also glared at the other female. And she scared Emerald, grrr! She made a puppy-ish growl but did nothing further.

January 6, Year 6 - Linklu Empty Re: January 6, Year 6 - Linklu

August 10th 2018, 2:11 am
Normally, Violet would have been drawn to Faafe's screaming almost immediately.  She was usually very high strung, and very easily startled.  Moments before the strange female began acting... well... strange... she caught a sound.  She wasn't sure what to think of it at first.  It was obviously made by a meerkat, but what about it made her heart flutter? And then, as the memory of a former bully peering into her chamber as a pup entered her mind, it hit her.  She knew that voice better than anyone... it sounded just like Draco! Could it really be him? Could he really be alive? The more she thought about it, the more excited she got, but after what had happened to her pups, tried to remind herself not to get her hopes up... what if she was just imagining things? It couldn't hurt to check it out, anyway.  She calmly made her way towards the source of the sound, completely unaware that she was headed toward the source of her greatest fears...

---

Unfortunately, in the midst of his puppish antics, poor Liulfr was right by the burrow slope when Faafe screamed.  Having an unusually nervous disposition, the rowdy pup jumped and squeaked.  In his surprise, he slipped and tumbled down the slope and into the burrow.  Dazed, Liulfr glanced around warily before sulking over to mom, Lilifey, in his embarrassment with his tail between his legs.  The screaming has left him a little unnerved, too.  He doesn't feel like playing anymore and tries to cuddle up to her for comfort.

Temptation, on the other hand, had been awoken by the scream and was more curious than anything.  She pulls herself from her big sister and makes her way above ground with a big smile.  When she gets there, however, nothing seems to be happening.  Disappointed, she looks around for her dad, Victor, and when she finds him, starts barking loudly to get his attention as she runs around his feet.  Dad, dad, dad, daaaaaaaad! Hortense, who had followed the young one outside, watches closely.  She doesn't know much about Victor, but isn't sure she trusted him.  She wisely knew her mother did not always have the best taste in men, but the Linklus didn't seem to like him, which potentially made him a future ally.  They would have to see... In the meantime she looks around for Harvey and August, her little brothers.

Sevuela had been gazing at Victor for several minutes, trying to get the nerve to go over and talk to him, feeling quite worthless and lonely at the moment, but pauses when she sees one of Sophie's pups approaching him.  She would have gladly adopted them if Hortense hadn't stepped in first; now they were just a reminder of the past.  She didn't hate them but it was definitely a source of tension for Sev, especially since she no longer had any pups of her own.

January 6, Year 6 - Linklu Empty Re: January 6, Year 6 - Linklu

August 10th 2018, 10:09 pm
Voldemort watched Violet's confusion and spark of exhilaration. Now he must reel it in...

He stepped backward, still leading on the string of gentle calls. When Violet was close enough he bolted back, disappearing in the brush. His plan was to have her follow the trail—no doubt she would as she was already lost in the fantasy of these sounds being her long lost mate's. He returned to the blood-covered sand, conducting the next part to his plan.

He flexed his claws and breathed out fast. Taking in a breath he brought one of his own massive paws to his chest, and slashed downwards, creating four red lines, with the inner two being the most thick. He repeated these actions on his shoulder, reaching all the way to his leg. He continued until both front legs, chest, and top of his head were painted with his own markings. With his old wounds from Xaphan still visible on various parts of his limbs and body, it only aided his idea.

Although he may have gone overboard with the self-damage, he'd heal fast. He always did.

Now he hid and waited...

January 6, Year 6 - Linklu Empty Re: January 6, Year 6 - Linklu

August 11th 2018, 4:49 am
While she'd witnessed Liulfr's small tumble down the burrow's slope, Lilifey pretended not to have noticed the embarrassing mishap as her son eventually sulked over to her, though the corner of Lilifey's mouth had twitched upward into a ghost of a smile when his eyes weren't upon her. She herself hadn't so much as flinched when Faafe let out a scream, having grown accustomed to the other female's odd outbursts by now. It was like her ears had developed a filter of sorts, recognizing the tone and pitch of Faafe's voice and knowing not to be concerned no matter how alarming the sound. As Liulfr cuddled up to her for comfort, the matriarch gave him a gentle nuzzle in return. He was growing a bit too old for this sort of coddling, but truth be told, she didn't mind. After all, she didn't even know when she might have another litter. She would have to have more pups eventually, she supposed, but having another litter would of course mean taking another mate, and... Well, even if she did not want that, it would have to happen eventually unless she wished to give up her place as the Linklus dominant female. It was a difficult and rather unwanted situation to be placed in, but one that she'd already grown rather numb and resigned to.

Still waiting for Sevuela to join him, Victor was admittedly  becoming a tad bit anxious and concerned that she may not actually wish to seek out his company anymore. Had he finally crossed a line? Thinking back on what Sev had asked him before, about 'not being good enough' for him, he probably should have responded differently. He should have apologized for his unfaithfulness and expressed how very lucky he felt to still have such a kind and forgiving mate. Perhaps he shouldn't have acted like she was speaking nonsense, as if he had given her no reason whatsoever to believe that he did not love her, and then he maybe-sort-of shouldn't have then sneaked off on a quick roving trip within that same hour. That probably wasn't a good idea at all. Finally sitting up from his reclined position, the slender male began looking around for his dear Sev in a small sort of panic. 'I messed up I messed up I messed up' was playing on repeat within his brain -- Until his thoughts were abruptly interrupted. With an odd sort of jolt, Victor's gaze landed on Temptation as she called out to him with a series of barks. His whole body had grown tense as he stared down at her, clearly a bit unsure as to how he was supposed to react to... this. At first, Victor had all but ignored the pups that he'd fathered with Sophie. They might as well have been another meerkat's offspring, because he'd wanted nothing to do with them. However, as they grew and learned of their relation to him, ignoring their existence had grown increasingly more difficult. Not because he felt any amount of affection toward them, but because they'd began seeking him out. Or was it just Temptation seeking him out as of late? Honestly, he often couldn't even tell them apart from each other. He lifted one of his paws as she ran around his legs, her father failing to look anything aside from exceedingly awkward, even as he forced himself to smile at the pup. As much as he had wished to put his brief past with Sophie behind him and hope against all odds that the Linklus might forget his treason, Victor at the very least did not treat he and Sophie's pups with outright hostility.

January 6, Year 6 - Linklu Empty Re: January 6, Year 6 - Linklu

August 11th 2018, 5:52 pm
(( ooc: he's only 3 months, lol... I need to enjoy his puphood a little longer >w< idc if KMP considers pups to be juveniles at that age haha ))

The more she heard the sounds, the more emotional and desperate Violet got. She hadn't been away from Draco very long, but even if he had only disappeared yesterday, it was a fact that since their relationship took a new turn, the male had never left her side. Even with Jazmine around, she felt so lost without him. She couldn't bear to go another second without her beloved Draco; she could hear him, but she couldn't see him, and no matter how fast she went, she didn't seem to get any closer. It was pure torture. But then... Violet smelled the blood, and her heart began to beat fast. She called out his name three times without stopping, obviously frantic. She's just a few feet away from Voldemort now, although she hasn't spotted him yet. When she does, however, she's bound to be not just disappointed, but horrified... Unfortunately the wind is blowing toward Voldemort, not away from him, making it difficult to catch the fiend's scent...

***

After a moment of cuddling with mom, Liulfr starts to feel a little more stable and pulls away from her slightly, but remains at her side. As rambunctious as he could be, he was still clingy and easily startled. Liulfr would probably stay at Lilifey's side for the remainder of the day, unless Luisa started doing something interesting enough to drag him away from mom. As he leans against her, it's quite obvious that he has inherited his father's size, even if he doesn't have Thunder's courage.

Like Liulfr, Temptation also resembles her missing parent a lot - she looks almost exactly like Sophie, aside from her white tail tip, which she got from her father. A fact probably not lost on the Linklus, who resented Sophie and for good reason. Whenever she asked about her mom, however, most meerkats ignored her. But Temptation was persistent, and Victor was her father after all, so maybe he would be different. So, in a high pitch chrr, she asked him rather directly, Dad, dad! You know about mommy, right? Where did she go? When is she coming back? Everyone either ignores me or says she was bad but I know they're lying. She giggles, then stares at him sternly. She KNOWS in her heart that everyone is wrong. She KNOWS that her father must SURELY have better answers. And with a snort, Temptation makes it clear that she expects the TRUTH.

Close enough to hear and see what's going on, Sevuela shrinks nervously. Temptation obviously doesn't know any better, but she's making them uncomfortable and Sevuela can tell that Victor is probably more uncomfortable than anyone else. She wants to help him but isn't sure how, so approaches him and presses her nose to his shoulder, hoping to comfort him. Still feeling a little down, the action is awkward but sincere all the same.

Hortense watches carefully, and narrows her eyes.

January 6, Year 6 - Linklu Empty Re: January 6, Year 6 - Linklu

Shooting Star cringes at the mention of Sophie, her mind flooding with memories she had with her. After the two ran away from the Linklu a couple years ago, they imigrated into a mob consisting of other ostracized meerkats. Back then Sophie had a kind and compassionate heart, offering comfort to Shooting Star whenever she'd have panic attacks from remembering the battle between the Linklu and Villains. All those wounds, blood and even a dead body! Shooting Star trembles with horror as those images appear in her mind. Shooting Star was a nervous individual back then, always trembling and startling easily, but Sophie was always there to offer her comfort and protection. Shooting Star had started to view Sophie as a mother figure since her biological mother neglected her for being visually impaired in one eye. She helped her become the brave and independent individual she is today. But then Sophie betrayed the Linklu. After that whole fiasco, Shooting Star had been trying to forget Sophie, the second mother that betrayed her. It took a while for her to move on, but after enduring a near fatal snake bite, Shooting Star has developed a spirit where she feels she no longer has to depend on others to shelter her from the big, bad world.

January 6, Year 6 - Linklu Empty Re: January 6, Year 6 - Linklu

August 12th 2018, 1:32 pm
Annoyed, August hisses at Faafe and bites at her tail. Though obviously smaller, she doesn't hold back her aggression and vexation.

Voldemort sees Violet. It was now or never.

He exhales every last breath in his lungs, releasing his dark thrill and embracing his special talent. Inhaling, he put on the face of a 'kat who had just lost something—someone—valuable. Scared, frantic, heartbroken, he combined these expressions into a thick mask, his blue eyes widening and even watering, his pupils shrinking and his fur on end. He shrieked, the sound mimicking a creature in great peril, great desperation.

He bolts out of hiding, almost running into the hopeful she-kat. He wasted no time staring at her. He knew that if he spent too long, Violet would turn tail and bolt, alerting the Linklu, and his chance would never come again.

His body trembled, stature crumbling. His bleedings wounds spoke for themselves. Whatever clout he might've had and exhibited was gone. He looked to be in shambles. He moved again before Violet could fully recognize who she was staring at.

He squealed, asking her where his brother was. Where was Draco? He had just heard him seconds ago.

Where, where's my brother, where's Draco?

He repeated the question in distraught to Violet. Then he poured more explanation on her.

I was with Draco this whole time, trying to find shelter. And then the Lavas, Poison and her mate, the Lavas attacked and separated us! Where's my brother?!? He must be around here somewhere!

Voldemort bolts after the overwhelming explanation, leaving behind Violet and digging into bushes, as if searching, calling out Draco's name in utter desperation and nearly wailing in terror.

Please, Violet, HELP!!
